Crowne/CareHere Expand Sleep Apnea Program Using CleveMed Technologies

Sep 3, 2014

CleveMed in partnership with Crowne/CareHere a leader in Health and Wellness Centers announced today that they expanded their sleep apnea pilot program at on-site health clinics across Florida to 7 sites. When it comes to spending it is important that health service keeps on top their costs. Luckily, they are able to use services from companies similar to Porzio Aggregate Spend ID (see this website) to ensure that they are keeping their spending in check. On-site healthcare clinics are playing an important role in controlling employers’ healthcare costs and improve employee productivity; however, they have typically focused on other chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Home Sleep Testing (HST) allows on-site clinics to diagnose patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in the comfort of their patients’ homes. This HST method is far more convenient to the patient and costs about one fourth the expense of in-lab evaluation.

“Expanding our scope of service with OSA diagnosis allows us to improve employees’ health by conveniently detecting a serious chronic condition that affects nearly 1 in 5 adults”, said Brian Lemay Director of Implementation and Clinical/Quality Management at Crowne/CareHere, “as importantly, prior studies have shown that due to the link between OSA, diabetes and cardiac disease, OSA therapy can in fact translate to significant overall healthcare cost reduction (>20%) to employers in the area of cost avoidance”.

“Crowne/CareHere medical staff has done a tremendous job screening for high risk patients, demonstrated by a greater than 95% detection for OSA with a home sleep study,” said Kirk Scovill, National Sales Director at CleveMed. “Combined with a high patient satisfaction rate due to the ease of use of SleepView, we look forward to duplicating this experience to more sites in the very near future”.

OSA, the most prevalent form of sleep apnea, is a repeated interruption of normal breathing during sleep due to a collapse of the upper airway. It is estimated to impact as many people as asthma and diabetes; yet, up to 80 percent of the population with the disease is undiagnosed and untreated. OSA does in fact hold serious health and economic consequences. Numerous studies link OSA to major chronic diseases such as stroke, heart failure, diabetes, obesity, hypertension and increased odds of serious car crash injuries.
